I can't really complain about the lack of space in my patio garden because I get to romp about in my parent's backyard every weekend. They rotate the crops regularly and these days, the yard is dominated by gigantic yam plants. My dad is really good at growing them. The tubers are huge and they taste fantastic simply steamed.
They have so much vegetables to spare, mum is always urging me to bring some home. Every Saturday evening, you will find me harvesting bags of sweet potato leaves, 'Di Huang Cai' or chives. They are organic and free. What more can a girl ask for?

ReplyDeleteHi Blur Ting, do you use pesticides on your plants? Doe your parent's farm uses them too?
ReplyDeleteI used alot of pesticides to control the white flies and other bugs but after I got a cat who would roam the garden, pesticides will become a problem. Is there other alternatives?

ReplyDeleteNo, we do not use pesticides on the vegetables but white flies is a problem. That's why I can hardly harvest anything from my patio garden. As for my parent's farm, they tend to do ok until a certain stage when disease sets in. That is when they will clear everything and start anew.
Unfortunately edibles attract lots of undesirable pests, and with a large garden it is difficult to control without pesticides. Maybe you can try growing under a netting?
I love yam plants. The huge beautiful leaves, the yummy yams... OK, my new year resolution for 2012 is to grow some yams!!!

ReplyDeletewow where do your parents live?? must be very big place considering how small spore is! can even grow own vege? is a rare sight in spore.
