Coleus on show

My coleus has been selected by NParks as an exhibit as a 'potted beauty' at the Singapore Garden Festival. The kind people at NParks like how large and colourful the leaves are.

They had wanted the rosemary bush initially but when they realised how large it is, they picked the coleus instead. Rosemary isn't the easiest plant to grow here in the tropics and I doubt it will survive the transportation and new environment (air conditioned exhibition hall). I'm glad it's staying put in my patio. Though it's my favourite plant in the garden, I don't really want to flaunt it and watch it die.

This little bird has been visiting my lipstick plant daily for nourishment.

Magazine shoot

The photographer from Appetite Magazine came by to do a garden shoot this morning. Thank goodness the weather was great.

I can't let anything go to waste. When SK gave up his old tank, I brought it into my garden to grow aquatic plants.

I needed some fish to prevent mosquito breeding and SK was more than happy to contribute some to my tank.

For newbies

If you're new vegetable growing and wish to see quick results, I strongly recommend planting sweet potato vines. They do well in both shady or sunny locations. The leaves are so pretty and lush, yet they taste wonderful stir-fried.

The best part is, they almost cost nothing. If you buy this vegetable from the market, choose the ones that come with stem. Use the leaves for cooking and poke the stems into soil.

I just planted some today. They may look limp but they'll come alive after a day or two. Just make sure you keep the soil moist. I can assure you that you'll have plenty of sweet potato leaves in no time.

Fruiting like crazy!

My mulberry plant is laden with fruits. I'm so looking forward to eating sweet ripe mulberries again.

Can you see the bananas growing in the background? They should be ready for harvest soon. They look so good in my garden, I don't think I can bear to harvest them for eating.
